The 2014 PokerListings Battle of Malta is scheduled to kick off on Nov. 6 and by the time the smoke clears it will likely be the biggest tournament ever held in the country.
Thanks to a €500,000-guaranteed prizepool nearly 1,000 players are expected to make the trek to Malta for the €550 buy-in tournament.
Andreas Hoivold, Leo Margets, Luca Pagano and Paul Jackson are among the notable poker pros confirmed to play. Maria Ho will be this year’s host.
“With a world-class location, full media coverage and a huge schedule of side events and parties the Battle of Malta gives recreational players a major tournament experience at a buy-in that fits their bankroll,” explained Ho in a new promo video for the event.
PLO Added to Battle of Malta Schedule
Taking place from Nov. 6-9, 2014, the Battle of Malta will feature four official events with Pot-Limit Omaha on the schedule for the first time ever.
888poker pro Sofia Lovgren took part in the 2013 Battle of Malta and mentioned it was one of her highlights of the year.
“Battle of Malta was great last year,” she said. “It was really fun to go there and play. I think it will be even more fun this year.”
Andreas Hoivold added that he really liked the experience surrounding the tournament.
“The poker was fun but everything else was a LOT of fun,” he said.
The entire festival will take place at the Portomaso Casino and Hilton in picturesque St. Julian in Malta. There will be plenty going on beyond just poker with several VIP parties.
